Silestone Home Additions & ADU: The San Jose Owner’s Guide
If you’re planning a home addition or ADU in San Jose with Silestone countertops, the full project typically runs $53,100 – $153,400, and the Silestone portion of that (countertops, fabrication, and installation) usually lands between $2,360 and $7,670 depending on square footage and edge profile. We stock and install Silestone-compatible surfaces for additions and ADUs, and most owners reach out after either an existing slab cracks at a seam or they discover their current countertop material won’t survive the moisture and settling that comes with new construction. The first sign is usually a hairline crack near the sink cutout, or a seam that opens up six months after the ADU is finished. You want someone who knows Silestone’s tolerances before the cabinets are even set, because retrofitting a countertop after drywall is a miserable, expensive fix.
Penhallow Remodeling San Jose is an independent general contractor, not affiliated with Silestone. We work with the material because it holds up in our climate, and we know its installation requirements cold.
Which Silestone Models This Applies To

Silestone runs three main lines that show up in San Jose additions and ADUs: the Classic series (Le Chic, Blanco Zeus, Coral Clay), the Loft series (concrete-look finishes like Camden and Poblenou), and the Sunlit Days series, which is a carbon-neutral option. All three use the same slab thickness standards, so the compatibility question is less about the model and more about the fabrication spec for your specific run.
Here’s the gotcha most owners miss: Silestone slabs come in 55″ x 120″ or 63″ x 128″ depending on the color and series, and if your ADU island needs a 64″ run, you’re buying a second slab or paying for a seam you didn’t plan for. We measure before we quote, and we write the slab count into the price so there’s no surprise change order when the fabricator calls. For OEM versus aftermarket: Silestone is a quartz product, so there’s no “aftermarket part” in the traditional sense. What matters is the fabricator’s cut quality, the resin match on seams, and whether they use the right epoxy for quartz. We use the same fabrication process Silestone trains for, and we pair it with our own written guarantee.

Signs Your Silestone Home Additions & ADU Is Failing
- Cracks radiating from the sink or cooktop cutout. This is almost always a support issue: the substrate (the layer between the slab and the cabinet) wasn’t level, or the opening wasn’t rounded properly. Quartz doesn’t flex, so the crack is stress finding the weakest radius.
- A seam that opens or darkens. When an ADU settles, even by a sixteenth of an inch, a seam that was tight at install can separate. The dark line is trapped moisture and grime, and it’ll only widen.
- Chipping along the front edge. Edges take the most abuse from pots, pans, and kids. A fabricated edge that wasn’t eased properly will chip like a dinner plate. If you can feel the chip with a fingernail, the polish job was short.
- A dull or etched patch near the stove. Quartz resists stains, but harsh cleaners (bleach, oven cleaner overspray) can eat the resin binder and leave a cloudy patch that won’t buff out.
- The slab “sounds hollow” when you tap it. A properly bedded Silestone top has solid contact with the substrate across the whole underside. Hollow spots mean the adhesive skipped or failed. Over time, that’s another crack waiting to happen.
Replacement Cost & What’s Included

For a home addition or ADU in San Jose, Silestone countertop installation runs $2,360 – $7,670 for a typical kitchen or kitchenette, and that includes template, fabrication, delivery, and install. A full ADU kitchen with an island, waterfall edge, and a 63″ slab width will push toward the top of that range. A simple bathroom vanity top in a standard color can land near the bottom.
The whole addition or ADU project is a different number: $53,100 – $153,400 for a home addition, and $106,200 – $259,600 for a detached ADU in San Jose. That’s framing, foundation, electrical, plumbing, drywall, fixtures, and finishes. What drives the Silestone piece up or down is slab count, edge profile (eased, pencil, or mitered waterfall), and whether we’re doing a standard 3cm deck or the thicker 12mm slab over a laminated edge. We give you a written price before any work starts, with the slab count, fabrication spec, and install labor broken out line by line. And the 365-Day Done Right Promise covers the work: if something fails inside a year, we’re back to fix it at no charge.

You can safely check a few things yourself: run your hand along the underside of the slab to find hollow spots, look for uneven cabinet shims, and clean the surface with warm water and a drop of dish soap (never bleach, never abrasive pads). That’ll tell you if the problem is cosmetic or structural.
What you shouldn’t do is try to move, re-seat, or re-seam a quartz slab. A 3cm Silestone top weighs roughly 18 pounds per square foot, and a 10-foot run is well over 400 pounds. A picked-up slab dropped on a hand or foot is a life-changing injury, and a cracked slab from a flex during the lift is a $2,000 mistake you just bought. The same goes for cutting a new sink opening or adjusting a seam: that takes a fabricator’s wet saw and a level we set with a laser, not a spirit level. If you’re in San Jose and the countertop is cracked, hollow, or separating, call (669) 274-2362. We’ll send a background-checked, uniformed technician to look at it, and you’ll get the written price before anyone touches the slab.
FAQs

Silestone quartz should last 25+ years with basic care, and in San Jose’s climate the bigger threats are UV exposure on south-facing windows (which can fade some lighter colors over a decade-plus) and settling from the ADU’s foundation in the first two years. Properly bedded and seamed, it’ll outlast the cabinets it sits on.
Small chips and edge nicks can be filled and polished by a fabricator, but a crack that runs through the slab can’t be structurally repaired in a way that won’t re-crack. The honest answer is that cracks need replacement; chips need a repair. Call (669) 274-2362 and we’ll tell you which one you have before quoting anything.
From template to install, a typical San Jose ADU countertop swap takes 7 – 10 days: one day to measure and template, 3 – 5 days for fabrication, and one day for removal and install. If you’re doing a full addition, we sequence the countertop work with the cabinet install so there’s no gap between trades.
We pull from Bay Area distributor stock, and the common Silestone colors (Blanco Zeus, Eternal Serena, Concrete Taupe in the Loft line) are usually available within a week. Specialty colors or large slab counts for a full ADU kitchen may take 2 – 3 weeks. We confirm slab availability before we give you a written price, so you’re never waiting on a number that assumes a slab that isn’t there.
