PGT Driveway & Pavers: The San Jose Owner’s Guide

If your PGT driveway or paver system has a failed section, cracked paver, or shifting base, we stock and install PGT-compatible driveway and paver components in San Jose, with most driveway replacements running $5,900 – $16,520 and paver patio installations at $4,130 – $12,980 depending on square footage and base condition. Most San Jose homeowners discover the failure the hard way: a paver sinks after the winter rains, a driveway slab cracks along the control joint, or the edge restraint lets go and pavers start wandering toward the lawn. We match the replacement to your existing PGT product, give you a written price before any work starts, and handle the removal, base repair, and installation in one visit.

We’re an independent San Jose contractor, not affiliated with PGT, but we work with their paver and driveway product lines regularly. Call (669) 274-2362 and we’ll help you identify the exact part and schedule a free estimate.

Which PGT Models This Applies To

An open living space after a whole-home remodel

PGT manufactures paver and driveway products under several product lines, and the replacement part you need depends on which one is installed. Their paver systems break down into three general categories: standard concrete pavers (typically 60mm or 80mm thickness), permeable pavers designed for stormwater drainage, and driveway-specific pavers rated for vehicle loads. The driveway-rated pavers carry a higher compressive strength spec, usually 8,000 psi or better, compared to patio pavers that often rate around 7,000 psi.

Here’s the compatibility gotcha San Jose owners hit most often: a 60mm paver installed on a driveway base will fail prematurely because it’s not rated for the point load of a vehicle tire. We see this in older San Jose neighborhoods where a previous owner or contractor cut corners and used patio pavers on the driveway approach. The fix isn’t swapping one paver; it’s correcting the base and installing the right thickness. Before you order anything, lift one paver and check the thickness with a tape measure, and look for a manufacturer stamp on the underside. We can match it from a photo, but having the measurement saves a trip.

OEM PGT pavers are the safest match for color and dimensional consistency. Quality aftermarket equivalents exist, but paver color varies by production batch, and mixing a new paver into a five-year-old installation can produce a visible patch. When we source aftermarket equivalents, we pull from Belgard and Unilock product lines, which are among the trade brands we already work with for paver projects.

Signs Your PGT Driveway & Pavers Is Failing

  • Sinking or depressed pavers in the wheel tracks. This almost always means the base layer has compacted unevenly or eroded. In San Jose’s clay-heavy soils, winter rain saturates the ground and the base loses support. Replacing the paver without fixing the base just moves the problem six months down the road.
  • Pavers drifting outward at the edges. The edge restraint, typically plastic or aluminum, has failed or was never installed. Without it, the interlock between pavers can’t hold, and the outside course starts to spread. On a June afternoon in San Jose, that spread can open a half-inch gap within a season.
  • White, chalky residue on the paver surface. That’s efflorescence, mineral salts carried to the surface by moisture. It’s often cosmetic, but persistent efflorescence on a driveway means water is trapped under the pavers and not draining. The drainage problem, not the stain, is the real issue.
  • Cracks running across multiple pavers in a straight line. A single cracked paver is usually a manufacturing flaw or a dropped tool. A crack line running through three or four pavers points to a base failure or a settling trench underneath, often where a utility line was backfilled.
  • Water pooling on a paver patio after light rain. PGT pavers are bedded with a slight slope for drainage. If water stands for more than an hour, the slope has flattened, the base has settled, or the bedding sand has washed out. Left alone, freeze-thaw cycles aren’t the threat in San Jose, but biological growth and paver movement are.

Replacement Cost & What’s Included

A remodeled living room with built-in shelves around the fireplace

Paver driveway installation in San Jose runs $8,260 – $21,240, concrete driveway installation $5,310 – $14,160, and paver patio installation $4,130 – $12,980. A full driveway replacement runs $5,900 – $16,520. What drives the number is the condition of the base underneath. If the base is sound, we remove the failed pavers, re-set them or replace them with matched stock, and recompact the bedding layer. If the base is shot, we’re excavating, hauling, and rebuilding from the ground up, and that’s where the cost climbs.

Every quote includes the pavers or concrete, base material, sand, edge restraint, haul-away of the old material, and installation labor. It’s a written, line-item price delivered before any work starts, and the number on day one is the number on the invoice. The work carries our 365-Day Done Right Promise: if something fails inside that year, we come back and fix it at no charge. That’s in writing on every project.

We also stock parts for KraftMaid, Cambria, and Silestone products, so if your driveway project turns into a broader exterior refresh, we can handle the related pieces without farming them out.

DIY or Call Us?

A homeowner can safely do the diagnostic work: lift a paver, check its thickness, look for a manufacturer stamp, and mark the spots that feel soft underfoot. That’s useful information, and we’ll gladly look at photos before we schedule anyone to come out.

Where DIY goes wrong is the excavation and base rebuild. A driveway base in San Jose needs to go 6 to 12 inches deep depending on soil condition and traffic, with the right compaction in lifts and the right bedding layer on top. Skimp on any of it and the pavers fail again, which is the exact cycle that brought most of our customers to us. Cutting pavers also requires a wet saw and takes practice; a bad cut on a $6 paver still looks like a bad cut. There’s no dangerous tension or electrical hazard here, but there is a hundred-dollar-per-square-foot mistake waiting for someone with a shovel and a weekend. If you’d rather not gamble, call (669) 274-2362 and we’ll give you a real number.
