ViewLux Kitchen Remodeling: The San Jose Owner’s Guide
If you have a ViewLux kitchen and something’s failing, here’s the short version: we work on ViewLux kitchens across San Jose, we’ll match your existing materials and hardware, and a full ViewLux-quality kitchen remodel in this area runs $16,520 to $53,100 depending on cabinet line, countertop material, and how much of the existing layout we’re keeping or changing. Most owners call us after a drawer front cracks at the hinge, a soft-close mechanism gives out, or a cabinet box starts separating at the seam. We’ll come out, look at what you have, and give you a written price before anything gets pulled.
One thing up front: Penhallow Remodeling San Jose is an independent contractor. We’re not affiliated with ViewLux. But we’ve rebuilt, repaired, and refaced enough ViewLux kitchens in Willow Glen, Almaden, Cambrian, and Rose Garden to know exactly what those cabinets do well and where they fail first.
Which ViewLux Models This Applies To

ViewLux has been in the kitchen cabinet market for years, and their product line splits into three rough tiers: the entry-level stock series, the mid-range semi-custom line, and a higher-end custom collection. The entry line uses 5/8-inch particleboard boxes with a laminate or thermofoil face. The mid and upper lines move to 3/4-inch plywood boxes, soft-close hardware as standard, and dovetailed drawer construction.
Here’s the compatibility gotcha most homeowners don’t know: ViewLux changed their hinge mounting pattern on several door styles about six years ago. Older doors used a 35mm cup hinge with a specific overlay measurement, and newer doors shifted the cup placement slightly. If you’re replacing a single door front, you need to measure the hinge cup center from the door edge before ordering. A mismatch means the door hangs crooked or won’t close flush. We can identify what you have in about ten minutes on site.
Labels help. Look inside the cabinet box, usually on the top corner of a base cabinet or under a drawer. ViewLux prints a series code there. If the label’s gone, measurements are the next best thing: box thickness, door overlay, and hinge cup diameter tell us which generation you’re working with. For OEM parts, ViewLux still supports most series from the last ten to twelve years, but lead times on OEM door fronts can run four to six weeks. Quality aftermarket equivalents, especially for hinges, slides, and drawer boxes, are often available faster and at 30-40 percent less without giving up anything on fit or function. For finish-matched door fronts, OEM is usually the right call because aftermarket color matching on a ten-year-old finish is difficult.
One San Jose-specific note: we see more hinge cup fatigue and drawer slide wear in homes near the coast and in older Willow Glen houses with single-pane windows, because temperature swings and ambient humidity swing more through the day. Cabinet hardware just works harder here than it does in a climate-controlled newer build.

Signs Your ViewLux Kitchen Is Failing
- Soft-close drawer slams shut or half-closes. The damper inside the slide has worn out. On ViewLux mid and upper lines, these are typically Blum or Grass slides, and the damper is replaceable without swapping the whole slide. We stock common replacements on the truck.
- Door front is cracked at the hinge or the screw holes are stripped. This is the single most common ViewLux failure we see, especially on the thermofoil line. Once a hinge screw strips, the door torques every time it opens, and the crack spreads. It can usually be drilled and doweled, or the door replaced if the finish can’t be matched.
- Laminate or thermofoil is peeling at the drawer edge or bottom rail. Heat from the dishwasher or oven vent is the usual cause. Thermofoil delamination can’t be glued back invisibly. The repair is a new drawer face or door, or a refacing job if it’s happening on multiple fronts.
- Cabinet box separating at a corner or the shelf pins won’t hold. Particleboard boxes fail when they get wet once, or when they carry more weight than they were built for over years. This is a structural issue. Sometimes the box can be reinforced; sometimes the cabinet should be rebuilt. We’ll tell you which one, and we’ll tell you why.
- Drawer slides feel gritty or bind halfway out. The ball bearings inside the slide have worn or seized. On stock ViewLux slides, replacement is the fix. We stock common lengths, and if yours is an odd size, we’ll order it and come back.
Replacement Cost & What’s Included

In San Jose, what you’ll spend depends on whether we’re repairing a few components or doing a full ViewLux-level kitchen remodel. Here are real ranges:
- Cabinet hardware replacement (hinges, slides, dampers): typically $15 to $45 per door or drawer, parts and labor included.
- Single door or drawer front replacement: $175 to $425 installed, depending on finish matching and whether the door is OEM or aftermarket.
- Partial cabinet refacing: $4,720 to $15,340, which covers new doors, drawer fronts, and veneer on the boxes we’re keeping.
- Full ViewLux-quality kitchen remodel in San Jose: $16,520 to $53,100. That’s cabinets, countertops, backsplash, and the labor to bring it all together, with the exact number depending on your cabinet line (stock vs. semi-custom), countertop choice (laminate up through Cambria quartz), and how much plumbing and electrical we’re moving.
Every quote from us is a written line-item number, not a ballpark. You’ll see exactly what the parts cost, what the labor costs, and what the guarantee covers. You’ll get the number before we start, and that number doesn’t change unless you change the scope. And every job, whether it’s a hinge swap or a gut remodel, carries our 365-Day Done Right Promise: if something we installed or repaired fails within a year, we come back and fix it at no charge. That’s in writing, on every project.

Some things are safe to check yourself, and I’ll tell you honestly which ones. If your cabinet door is loose, tighten the hinge screws. If a drawer is gritty, pull it out and see if something’s stuck in the track. You’re not going to hurt anything doing that, and it might save you a service call.
But here’s the line: when a hinge cup is cracked, a slide is seized, or a cabinet box is separating, a DIY fix usually makes the problem more expensive. Stripped cabinet boxes are hard to repair with wood glue and toothpicks, and the result rarely holds. And if you decide to replace a cabinet, countertop, or run of cabinets yourself, you’re moving into work that involves plumbing, electrical, and load-bearing walls. That’s where a bathroom or kitchen modification can go wrong in ways that cost more than the original job. Those areas involve water lines, gas, and sometimes structural work, and we recommend a trained professional handle them.
If you’re not sure which category your problem falls into, call us at (669) 274-2362. We’ll talk it through on the phone, and if it sounds like something we should see, we’ll come out and give you a written price before any work starts.
FAQs

Stock ViewLux lines with particleboard boxes typically give you 12 to 18 years before something structural shows up, while the plywood-box lines can go 25 years or more with reasonable care. In San Jose, the two things that shorten that lifespan fastest are water exposure at the sink base and unvented dishwasher heat.
Most door and drawer failures can be repaired with new hardware or a new front. A separating particleboard box is the exception. If the box is still square and the separation is at a non-structural seam, we can often reinforce it. If the box is twisting, replacement is the honest answer and usually the cheaper long-term option.
A hardware swap on five or six doors takes us a couple of hours on site. A single door or drawer front replacement is usually one visit, often an hour or two. A full refacing job runs three to five days depending on the number of cabinets.
We keep common hinge, slide, and damper replacements on the truck, so a lot of hardware jobs get done same-day. Finish-matched door and drawer fronts usually come from ViewLux or a matched aftermarket shop, and those run two to five weeks depending on the finish. We’ll tell you the lead time before you commit to anything.
