Belgard Bathroom Remodeling: The San Jose Owner’s Guide

If you have a Belgard product in your bathroom and it’s failing, we can replace it or remodel around it. A bathroom remodel in San Jose with Belgard materials typically runs $10,620 – $33,040 installed, depending on scope and which Belgard product line you’re working with. Most homeowners discover a problem the way you just did: a crack in the paver surround, a loose edge on a Belgard wall cap, water pooling where it didn’t before, or a Belgard drain grate that’s shifted and now catches your heel every morning.

Call (669) 274-2362

Belgard is better known for hardscape, but plenty of San Jose bathrooms use their pavers, wall blocks, and drainage products in shower surrounds, tub decks, and bathroom-adjacent wet areas. When those pieces fail, the fix usually means more than swapping one part. We’ll get into what fails first and what it costs to make it right.

Key takeaways:

  • Belgard bathroom pieces fail most often at mortar joints, not the product itself
  • You can replace a single Belgard paver or cap, but color matching after 3+ years is a real problem
  • Installed repair work around Belgard bathroom products in San Jose runs $945 – $3,540 for small fixes, and full remodels run $10,620 – $33,040
  • We’re an independent San Jose remodeler, not a Belgard dealer, which means we tell you the truth about what to reuse and what to tear out

Which Belgard Models This Applies To

Belgard doesn’t make a single “bathroom line,” so you won’t find a model number stamped on the underside of a shower paver the way you would on a Moen cartridge. What you’ll find instead is a series name and a manufacturing code. Belgard’s Mega-Arbel, Mega-Lafitt, and Urbana paver lines show up most often in San Jose bathroom work, along with Belgard Dublin Cobble for shower floors and Belgard wall caps for tub deck edges.

If you have the original packaging, the series name is on the label. If you don’t, measure the paver. Mega-Arbel runs 6″ × 9″ with a 60mm thickness; Mega-Lafitt is larger at 6″ × 12″. That measurement difference is a compatibility gotcha: you can’t substitute one for the other without changing the joint pattern and the slope toward the drain. We’ve torn out more than one San Jose shower where a previous contractor mixed two series and the water channeled wrong.

On OEM versus aftermarket: Belgard’s own replacement pavers are worth buying when the piece is visible and the bathroom is under 3 years old. Beyond that, color-batch differences mean a “match” from Belgard may not match what’s on your floor. We’ll tell you honestly when a full section replacement beats a single-piece patch, because the joint lines and color consistency matter more in a bathroom than they do on a driveway.

One more thing: Penhallow Remodeling San Jose is an independent remodeling company. We’re not affiliated with Belgard, which means we can install whatever works, including quality alternates from Unilock or a local paver supplier if that gives you a better result.

Signs Your Belgard Bathroom Remodeling Is Failing

  • Water pooling in the corner of the shower instead of draining. The paver itself rarely fails this way. It’s the pitch underneath: either the mortar bed settled or the drain line has shifted. You’ll see standing water hours after the last shower.
  • A paver rocks when you step on it. This means the bedding layer under that piece has washed out or compacted unevenly. Rocking usually starts at the drain collar because that’s where water moves fastest against the softest material.
  • Efflorescence, the white chalky film, keeps coming back. In San Jose’s hard water, mineral deposits look worse and return faster. It’s cosmetic, but it tells you water is moving through the pavers and evaporating on the surface, which means the sealer has failed.
  • Cracks running through multiple pavers in a straight line. That’s not a product defect, that’s a structural crack telegraphing up from the substrate (the mortar or concrete base under the pavers). It usually follows a control joint below that should have been reinforced.
  • The edge of a wall cap or tub deck paver is spalling, meaning small chips flake off. When water seeps into a Belgard cap and mineral-laden San Jose water evaporates inside the pores, it expands and pops the surface.

Replacement Cost & What’s Included

A low-threshold walk-in shower with a bench and grab bar

For a Belgard bathroom repair or remodel in San Jose, you’re looking at these ranges:

  • Single Belgard paver or cap replacement: $945 – $3,540 installed, including matching the nearest available color and resetting the mortar bed
  • Shower floor section replacement with Belgard pavers: $3,540 – $10,030, including new bedding, slope correction, and sealing
  • Full bathroom remodel using Belgard products: $10,620 – $33,040, depending on shower size, whether you convert a tub, and what tile or fixture upgrades you pair with it

What drives the range? A straight swap of a few pavers is mostly labor and the cost of the matching piece. Once you’re replacing a shower floor, we’re rebuilding the slope, which means a new mortar bed and probably moving the drain. A full remodel gets into framing, waterproofing, and all the fixture work.

Every job starts with a written price before work begins. The number Trevor Nash gives you on the estimate is the number on the invoice. No change orders unless you ask for extra work. And we back the whole thing with our 365-Day Done Right Promise: if the work fails inside that year, we come back and fix it at no charge. That’s in writing on every Belgard bathroom job we do in San Jose.

DIY or Call Us?

You can safely do two things before calling anyone. First, take photos of the failing area with a quarter for scale, so the paver size is visible. Second, check whether the drain grate moves when you press on it; a loose drain collar is the simplest cause of a rocking paver, and it’s useful for us to know before we show up.

What you shouldn’t do is pry up a Belgard paver with a screwdriver. Bathroom pavers in a wet area sit on a sloped mortar bed that’s now saturated and partially degraded. Pulling one piece without undercutting the mortar around it cracks the surrounding pavers, and now a $945 repair is a $3,540 floor replacement. You also shouldn’t re-seal a shower floor with a hardware-store sealer. The wrong sealer on Belgard pavers traps water under the surface and accelerates spalling in San Jose’s mineral-heavy water.

If it’s more than a loose grate, call (669) 274-2362. We’ll come look, tell you what’s actually wrong, and give you a written price before we touch anything.
