Cambria Kitchen Remodeling: The San Jose Owner’s Guide

Cambria kitchen remodeling in San Jose typically runs $16,520 to $53,100, depending on your countertop square footage, cabinetry changes, and whether the old surfaces come out clean or fight you on the way. We stock Cambria quartz slabs and matching edge profiles, and most full countertop replacements take 3 to 5 working days once fabrication is complete. The way most San Jose homeowners find us is mid-failure: a seam has separated, a corner chipped at the sink, or the old acrylic-solid-surface counter finally gave out under years of hard water and hot pans, and they want to know if the Cambria tops can be replaced without gutting the whole kitchen. They usually can.

Which Cambria Models This Applies To

Cambria surfaces are not one product line with interchangeable specs. They’re a quartz slab system, and the design name on your paperwork matters. Popular San Jose installs include Brittanicca, Torquay, Ella, and Skara Brae, each with different veining density and edge-profile tolerances. The fabrication-side gotcha: Cambria slabs are 2 cm and 3 cm thick, and you cannot swap a 2 cm edge profile onto a 3 cm slab without a visible lamination seam. If your original install used a mitered edge (the waterfall look or a doubled front lip), the replacement needs the same fabrication approach, not a flat polish. We match slabs by design code, not just by appearance. Two Brittanicca slabs poured in different batches will have slightly different grey movement, which is why we order the full run from one production lot when doing an island and perimeter together. As an independent San Jose contractor, we install and fabricate around Cambria products but have no direct affiliation with the brand.

Signs Your Cambria Kitchen Remodeling Is Failing

  • Seam separation at the sink or cooktop cutout. Quartz doesn’t flex, so when the underlying cabinets settle or the plywood substrate swells from moisture, the seam is the first place stress shows. You’ll see a hairline gap that darkens with crumbs and water.
  • Chipping along the front edge or around the faucet holes. Cambria is tough but brittle under point impact. A dropped cast-iron pan or a careless pot-fill swing near the main faucet is the usual cause. Small chips can sometimes be polished out if there’s enough overhang remaining; larger chips usually mean edge rebuild or slab replacement.
  • Dull, cloudy patches that won’t clean. Quartz resists staining better than granite, but hard water in San Jose (much of it sourced from the Sierras and moderately mineral-laden) can etch the surface over time if sealers are never applied or if acidic cleaners get used regularly. It’s not a structural failure, but it is an appearance failure that refinishing can sometimes cure.
  • Water-stained substrate swelling under the counter. If the cabinet tops feel soft or the drawers below the sink stick, the counter is probably resting on swollen particleboard. This was a common shortcut in spec-built San Jose kitchens from the late 90s and early 2000s.
  • Counter pulling away from the backsplash. A widening caulk joint between the back edge of the slab and the tile or drywall means the cabinets have shifted. Quartz won’t bend to follow them; it will sit proud and pull the caulk line open.

Replacement Cost & What’s Included

Countertop-only replacement in San Jose runs $2,360 to $7,670 including slab, fabrication, template, and install. A full Cambria kitchen remodel, meaning new tops, cabinets, sink cutout, and backsplash, lands between $16,520 and $53,100. The big cost drivers are slab selection (Cambria’s designer veined lines cost more per square foot than solid colors), edge profile complexity, island size, and whether we need to rebuild the cabinet tops before the slab goes down. We write the number down before work starts, and that number covers the slab, the fabrication, the removal of the old surface, the install, and our 365-Day Done Right Promise. If the seam opens or the install fails inside a year, we come back and fix it at no charge. That promise is in writing on every job.

DIY or Call Us?

Checking is free and safe. Shine a flashlight along the seams, push lightly on the cabinet tops near the sink, and run your hand along the front edge. What you should not do is attempt to glue or clamp a separated Cambria seam yourself with epoxy, or try to sand out a chip with a random orbital sander. Quartz fabrication and seam work require diamond tooling and precise leveling. A homeowner “fix” often makes the replacement harder and more expensive because we have to undo the adhesive first. If the seam is separating or the slab is cracked, call us at (669) 274-2362. We’ll send a background-checked, uniformed technician to look at it, tell you honestly if it’s repairable or needs a new slab, and put the price in writing before anyone touches a tool.
