Delta Driveway & Pavers: The San Jose Owner’s Guide
Delta-brand driveway and paver products carry a strong reputation, and when a section of your San Jose driveway or patio starts failing, you want the fix handled with the right materials and a price you can hold someone to. We install Delta-compatible driveway and paver systems across San Jose, and a full paver driveway installation typically runs $8,260 – $21,240 depending on square footage, base condition, and paver style. Most homeowners discover a problem the way you probably just did: a paver that’s sunken an inch below its neighbors, a border course pulling away from the house, or standing water pooling where it never used to.
We’re an independent San Jose remodeling contractor, not affiliated with Delta, but we work with their paver lines and related hardscape systems regularly. When you call us about a failed paver section, the first question we ask is what the base underneath looks like, because that’s usually where the real story is.
Which Delta Models This Applies To

Delta manufactures pavers in three broad categories that show up most often in San Jose yards: interlocking concrete pavers (their standard residential line), permeable pavers (the kind built to let rainwater soak through rather than run off), and larger-format slab pavers used for patios and walkways. The interlocking concrete line is what we see on the majority of older San Jose driveways, especially homes built in the 1990s and 2000s around Willow Glen, Cambrian, and Almaden Valley.
The compatibility gotcha with Delta pavers is dimensional, not cosmetic. Many homeowners assume any 4×8-inch paver will drop into the gap, but Delta’s molds produce a slightly different spacer profile than Belgard or Unilock, and a mismatched paver throws the joint lines off by a quarter inch that your eye catches immediately. We match by measuring the actual unit, not the nominal size, and we cross-reference the color code stamped on the underside of the paver. When it comes to OEM versus aftermarket, Delta’s own replacement pavers are the safest call if you’re patching a visible section; for full driveway replacements, we’ll quote you on Delta-compatible equivalents from Belgard and Unilock so you can weigh price and warranty side by side.

Signs Your Delta Driveway & Pavers Are Failing
- Sunken or dipped pavers near the street apron. San Jose’s clay-heavy soil expands and contracts with our wet winters and dry summers, and the base layer under the pavers eventually settles unevenly. A dip of half an inch or more means the compacted base below has shifted, not just the paver on top.
- Crumbling or disintegrating edge restraints. The plastic or concrete edge that holds the outer course of pavers in place fails first, usually on the side nearest a lawn or planting bed. Once that edge lets go, pavers start drifting outward and the whole field loses tension.
- Weeds pushing through joints that were once tight. Polymeric sand breaks down over five to eight years of San Jose sun exposure. When it’s gone, joint gaps open up, weeds root in, and water gets under the pavers to accelerate the freeze-thaw and settlement cycle.
- White, chalky surface bloom on the pavers. Efflorescence is mineral salts wicking up through the concrete. It’s cosmetic, not structural, but persistent bloom across a whole section suggests water is moving through the paver body more than it should.
- Pavers cracking in a straight line across the driveway. A crack that follows a clean, continuous path usually points to a concrete base slab underneath that has cracked and telegraphed the break up through the pavers. That’s a base problem, not a paver problem, and it needs to be opened up to fix correctly.

AfterReplacement Cost & What’s Included

For a San Jose paver driveway, you’re looking at $8,260 – $21,240 for a full installation, with most mid-size two-car driveways landing between $11,000 and $16,000. A partial repair, where we pull and reset a failing section, runs lower, usually $2,500 – $6,000 depending on how much base has to be excavated and re-compacted. What drives the number: the square footage, the condition of the existing base, whether you need new edge restraints, the paver style and color you select, and site access for our equipment.
Every quote we give includes the pavers, new base material where needed, polymeric sand, labor, and haul-away of the old material. You get the written number before we start, and that number is what you pay. The work carries our 365-Day Done Right Promise in writing: if the pavers settle, shift, or the joints fail inside a year, we come back and fix it at no charge.
DIY or Call Us?
You can safely check a few things on your own: look at whether the edge restraints are still in place, note where water pools after rain, and take a photo of the color code on the underside of a loose paver so you can tell us what you’ve got. What you shouldn’t do is start prying up pavers and re-setting them on sand you bought at a big-box store. A paver field is only as good as the compacted base underneath it, and without a plate compactor and the right aggregate, your reset section will be sunken again by next winter. If the failing area is larger than a few pavers, or you’re seeing cracks that run in a line, give us a call at (669) 274-2362 and we’ll come look at the base before anyone guesses.
FAQs

A properly installed Delta paver driveway in San Jose should last 25 to 30 years before the pavers themselves show meaningful wear, though the base layer and polymeric sand typically need attention at the 8 to 12 year mark. Our climate shortens sand life because our dry summers bake it and our wet winters wash it. Call (669) 274-2362 if your pavers are shifting or your joints are opening up, and we’ll tell you honestly whether it’s a sand issue or a base issue.
Yes, individual pavers and small sections can usually be pulled, re-leveled, and re-set without replacing the whole driveway, as long as the base underneath is still sound. If the base has failed, resetting pavers on top of it is a temporary fix at best. We’ll scope it for you at no charge so you know which situation you’re in.
Most paver driveway replacements in San Jose take three to five working days from demolition to final sanding and compaction, assuming dry weather and reasonable access to the site. Partial repairs are often done in a single day. We’ll give you a defined arrival window and a written schedule before any work begins.
We can’t keep every Delta color code stocked on our trucks because the line is too broad, but we maintain a local San Jose supplier relationship that gets the specific pavers we need in one to two days for most colors. For matching older or discontinued colors, we’ll bring physical samples to your house before ordering so the patch doesn’t stand out. Call (669) 274-2362 and we’ll start with the color code.
If your Delta driveway or paver patio is failing, give us the real problem and we’ll give you the real number. Reach us at (669) 274-2362 for a free estimate, in writing, before any work starts.
