IKO Windows & Doors: The San Jose Owner's Guide
If you have an IKO window or door with a failed part in San Jose, we can match it, price it honestly, and install it. Most IKO window and door repairs in San Jose run $470 to $2,125 installed, depending on the part and the age of the unit. You'll usually notice the problem when a window won't lock, a door rubs against the frame, or a seal has clouded over with trapped moisture between the panes.
IKO built and sold windows and doors under several lines before exiting the market, and parts have gotten harder to find. That's the thing we keep seeing in San Jose: a homeowner has a solid frame, good glass, and one failed hinge or balance, and the first three calls tell them to replace the whole window. Sometimes replacement is the right answer. Often it isn't.
Which IKO Models This Applies To

IKO's window and door lines included the IKO Spectra, IKO Thermoplast, and, in some years, IKO vinyl casement and slider series. The truth is that IKO was primarily a roofing and building products manufacturer, and their window and door division was a smaller run. That means there wasn't a deep catalogue of service parts left behind, which is why matching matters.
When we come out to a San Jose home, we look for the model label on the frame edge or the top of the sash, or on the hinge leaf itself. If the label is gone, we measure the glass thickness, the frame profile, and the hardware spacing. One thing we've learned from years of IKO work in this area: the IKO balance systems used non-standard shoe sizes on several Spectra models, which is why a generic replacement balance from a big-box store won't hold. We usually source direct OEM-equivalent parts from the same trade channels we use for our other window lines, and we'll tell you honestly if a quality aftermarket part is a better long-term bet than an OEM part that was discontinued twenty years ago. We also stock parts for KraftMaid, Cambria, and Silestone products, so we're used to matching across manufacturers that no longer support their original lines.
Important: Penhallow Remodeling San Jose is an independent service provider. We are not affiliated with IKO, and we don't claim to be. We're a remodeling company that knows these products and works with them regularly.

Signs Your IKO Windows & Doors Is Failing
- The window won't stay open. This points to a failed spiral or block-and-tackle balance. The spring inside has lost tension, and over time, the window will slam shut on its own. That's a safety concern if there are young kids around.
- Condensation or fog between the panes. The insulated glass seal has failed. Once the seal goes, the argon or krypton gas leaks out and the unit loses its energy efficiency. If it's a bedroom window in San Jose, you'll feel the draft when the fog shows up.
- A door that scrapes the frame or won't latch. On IKO sliding and hinged doors, this is usually worn rollers or hinge sag. Sometimes it's the frame itself settling into the San Jose adobe soil, but usually the hardware is the first thing to give.
- The lock or handle feels loose and won't engage. IKO lock hardware was serviceable, but the internal cam wears down. Once it won't throw the deadbolt or keep the sash pulled tight, the window isn't actually locking anymore.
- Water stains below or beside the frame. This is usually failed weatherstripping or a cracked frame corner. In San Jose's wet winter months, a small leak will stain the drywall below the window within a couple of seasons.

AfterReplacement Cost & What's Included

For IKO window and door part replacements in San Jose, most jobs land between $470 and $2,125 installed. That includes the part, the labor, the trip, and the cleanup. The range comes down to three things: which part failed, whether we're repairing one unit or rebuilding hardware on several, and whether the glass has to be custom-cut for an insulated unit.
Here's what that looks like on paper:
- Single balance or hinge replacement: $470 – $710 per window
- Full hardware rebuild on one window (balances, lock, weatherstripping): $590 – $940
- Insulated glass unit replacement for one sash: $710 – $1,650 depending on glass size and coating
- Complete door roller and track service: $825 – $2,125 depending on door weight and frame condition
We write the number down before we touch the window, and that number is the number on the invoice. The work carries our 365-Day Done Right Promise: if the part fails inside a year, we come back and make it right at no charge, and the return visit is free. We also give you a written guarantee on every repair. That's part of The Kingswell Way, the standard our company has operated under since 2004: say the price before the work, show up in the window we gave, leave the place cleaner than we found it.
DIY or Call Us?
You can check the label on the frame to confirm the model, and you can watch for the fog between panes, the sag, or the loose handle. That part you can do.
What you should not do is try to service a tensioned balance system yourself. On IKO Spectra windows, the balance is under compression or torsion, and when it lets go, it lets go fast. In a San Jose rental or older home, these units are 15 to 25 years old now, which is exactly when the spring is most brittle. We've also seen owners try to replace a fogged insulated glass unit on their own and end up with a lopsided sash that warps the frame. That's a $900 problem that becomes a $2,000 one.
If you can see the part number or describe the symptom, give us a call and we'll tell you what it likely is and what it likely costs. Give me the real problem and I'll give you the real number. You can reach us at (669) 274-2362.
FAQs

Realistically, 20 to 30 years for the frame and glass, but the hardware, balances, and weatherstripping usually need service at the 10- to 15-year mark. San Jose's dry summers and occasional wet winters cause the vinyl and seals to expand and contract, which wears out moving parts faster than frames in a milder climate. Call (669) 274-2362 and we'll tell you whether your unit is worth repairing or replacing.
Most IKO part failures can be repaired without replacing the whole window or door. We repair what failed and keep the existing frame and glass whenever they're still sound. If the frame itself is cracked or rotted, replacement starts to make more sense, and we'll give you a written number either way. Estimates are free.
Most window and door part replacements take one to two hours on site. A balance or hinge swap is usually under an hour. If we need to order a custom insulated glass unit, that's typically a week to ten days out, and then the install is still about an hour. We'll give you the time window before we start.
We stock common balances, rollers, locks, and weatherstripping that match the IKO lines we see most often in San Jose. Some less common IKO parts need to be ordered, but we'll tell you the lead time before you commit to anything. Call (669) 274-2362 and describe what you're seeing, and we'll check the truck before we schedule the visit.
