KraftMaid Windows & Doors: The San Jose Owner’s Guide

If you have a KraftMaid window or door that’s sticking, leaking, or sagging, we can match the exact replacement part or install a new unit. In San Jose, you’re typically looking at $5,310 – $17,700 for full window replacement and $944 – $2,950 for hinge, roller, or weatherstrip repair, depending on whether we’re swapping a cartridge, a sash, or the entire frame. Most KraftMaid owners discover the problem the same way: a door that suddenly drags across the threshold, a window that won’t stay open, or condensation collecting between double panes that tells you the seal has gone. Here’s what you need to know about KraftMaid parts, pricing, and repair in San Jose.

Which KraftMaid Models This Applies To

A walk-in pantry with wood shelving

KraftMaid’s window and door lines span sliding patio doors, hinged entry doors, casement windows, double-hung windows, and picture windows. The part you need depends on your exact series and the year it was manufactured, which is why we always start with the label. Look for a small white or silver sticker on the hinge side of the door or in the window’s lower rail. It will show a model number and sometimes a date code. If the label is gone, measure the rough opening and the visible glass width and we can reverse-match the unit from KraftMaid’s size charts.

One compatibility gotcha in KraftMaid’s line: the patio door rollers changed in 2011. Pre-2011 sliders used a 7/8-inch diameter nylon roller with a stamped steel bracket. After 2011, KraftMaid switched to a 1-1/4 inch sealed-bearing roller. They are not interchangeable. If you buy an aftermarket roller advertised as “fits all KraftMaid sliders,” it won’t fit either correctly. We stock both sizes on our trucks and can identify what you have from a photo of the bottom of the door, but we won’t order anything until we’ve put hands on it.

Penhallow Remodeling San Jose is an independent contractor and is not affiliated with KraftMaid. We work with OEM KraftMaid parts when they’re available, and we’re candid when a quality aftermarket equivalent will perform identically for less money. The real decision tends to come down to whether you’re repairing for a few more years or replacing for fifteen.

Signs Your KraftMaid Windows & Doors Is Failing

  • Condensation or fog between the glass panes. This means the insulated glass unit (IGU) has lost its seal. In San Jose’s dry summers and wet winters, the thermal cycling causes the sealant to expand, contract, and eventually crack. Once moisture gets between the panes, no amount of wiping fixes it.
  • Door dragging or grinding when you open it. The rollers or hinges are worn. A dragging door isn’t just a nuisance, it’s bending the frame every time you force it. The longer it drags, the more likely the frame itself needs realignment or replacement.
  • Window won’t stay open or closed. The spring balances (in double-hung windows) or the friction stays (in casements) are shot. If you hear a snap when the window drops, a balance wire has broken. We replace those on site.
  • Draft you can feel around the edges, especially on windy San Jose afternoons. Weatherstripping has compressed or torn. KraftMaid factory weatherstrip is available by the foot for most series, though on some older models you’ll need a generic TPE seal that matches the channel.
  • Lock won’t engage or the door doesn’t seat flush. The frame has settled or the hinges are bent. In a door, this is often a security issue as much as an energy issue. We’ll check the reveal (the gap between door slab and frame) and tell you whether a hinge adjustment fixes it or the frame needs to be re-set.

Replacement Cost & What’s Included

A remodeled kitchen with a waterfall island and wood cabinets

In San Jose, full KraftMaid window replacement runs $5,310 – $17,700 depending on how many windows, the glass package, and whether the frames need to be rebuilt. A single sash replacement (just the moving panel, not the frame) typically falls at $945 – $2,950. Door hardware and roller replacement is usually $470 – $2,125. What drives the range: if the frame is square and the rough opening is intact, you’re paying for the part and a straightforward install. If dry rot has set in around the opening (common in older San Jose ranch homes where sprinklers have been hitting the wall for 20 years), we’re repairing the substrate before the new unit goes in.

Every quote is a written number. It includes the part, the labor, the disposal of the old unit, and the trim-out on the interior side. DIY or Call Us?

You can safely check a few things yourself. Clean the tracks. Tighten a hinge screw. Condition the weatherstripping. Those are maintenance items. Replacing an insulated glass unit, swapping a balance wire, or re-setting a pre-hung door is where damage happens. The glass unit alone is heavy, and a dropped sash will crack a tile floor or a foot. Door springs and balance wires carry tension; if they let go under load, you lose skin. Trevor Nash has pulled enough DIY attempts out of San Jose homes to know better than to write a tutorial here. If you’re not certain, call us. Give me the real problem and I’ll give you the real number. We’ll quote it, fix it, and guarantee it.
