PGT Bathroom Remodeling: The San Jose Owner’s Guide
If you have a PGT bathroom product that’s failing, we can source the replacement part and install it correctly. A PGT bathroom remodeling job in San Jose typically runs $10,620 – $33,040 when it involves a full gut and rebuild, but a targeted parts replacement like a shower valve, door panel, or glass track usually lands well below that, often $300 – $2,500 installed depending on the specific component. Most owners discover the failure the hard way: a shower door that suddenly drags and jams, a valve that won’t stop dripping, or a frame that’s started pulling away from the tile.
We’re Penhallow Remodeling San Jose, an independent contractor. We’re not affiliated with PGT, which matters because we’ll tell you plainly when a genuine PGT part is worth the cost and when a quality aftermarket equivalent does the same job for less.
Which PGT Models This Applies To

PGT makes many bath components, but most of ours come from their shower door and enclosure lines. The model number is usually stamped on a small label near the top corner of the glass or inside the frame channel. Look for a two- or three-letter prefix followed by digits. If the label has worn off, a glass measurement and hinge spacing will get us 90% of the way there.
One gotcha San Jose homeowners hit constantly: PGT has used at least three different roller designs across the 5000, 6000, and 7000 series doors. The rollers are not interchangeable. A 6000-series roller will not seat in a 7000-series track, and forcing it will crack the glass. We keep the most common PGT rollers and hinges on the truck, and we order the uncommon ones same week.
For valves and trim, PGT has private-labeled several Moen and Delta cartridge platforms over the years. If your valve body is Moen, a Moen 1225 cartridge works. If it’s Delta, a Delta RP19804 does. You don’t need a “PGT” cartridge for those, and paying more for the PGT-labeled version doesn’t buy you longer life.

Signs Your PGT Bathroom Remodeling Is Failing
- Shower door drags or pops off the track. The rollers have flat-spotted or the plastic carrier inside the roller has cracked. This is the single most common PGT failure we see in San Jose, and it usually starts after 6 – 10 years, especially in bathrooms with poor ventilation where the humidity sits high.
- Glass panel wobbles at the hinge. The pivot block inside the hinge has worn, or the set screws have backed out. If the wobble is ignored, the glass starts lifting at the opposite corner and stresses the edge, which is where tempered glass blows out.
- Seal or sweep is brittle and falling apart. San Jose’s dry summers bake plastic and vinyl seals, and once they’re cracked, water escapes at the bottom edge and pools on the floor. That’s how you get mold under the baseboard.
- Hard water has etched the glass permanently. The coating failed, not the glass. If the glass looks permanently cloudy even after cleaning, the factory coating has worn off and no cleaner will restore it. You either live with it or replace the panel.
- Valve drips even when fully closed. The cartridge is done. If it’s a pressure-balance valve, you may also feel the shower temperature spike or drop randomly when someone flushes a toilet.

DIY or Call Us?
Honestly, the only thing I’d hand a homeowner for a PGT bathroom fix is a replacement sweep. It clips on, costs about $20, and requires no tools. Everything else carries risk. Tempered glass doors weigh 60 – 110 pounds, and a hinge that slips while you’re loosening it can send that glass into a wall, a vanity, or you. The edges are where it shatters. If you’re dealing with a dragging door, a wobbling panel, or a leaking valve, call us at (669) 274-2362. Give me the real problem and I’ll give you the real number, before the truck even leaves the shop.
FAQs

Rollers, hinges, and seals typically last 6 – 12 years in San Jose depending on bathroom humidity and water quality. Hard water and poorly vented bathrooms shorten that lifespan considerably. Valves and cartridges usually go 8 – 15 years before they start dripping. Call (669) 274-2362 for a free inspection if you’re seeing early failures.
Rollers and hinges are replaceable, not repairable. The plastic carriers inside them wear out and no lubricant or adjustment brings them back. Valves can sometimes be saved with a cartridge swap, but if the valve body itself is cracked or corroded, it’s a replacement. We’ll tell you which one you’re looking at after a five-minute look.
Most roller, hinge, and cartridge replacements are done in under an hour on site. A full glass panel swap takes 2 – 3 hours. A complete shower enclosure replacement is a one-day job in most San Jose homes, assuming the existing opening is standard. Call (669) 274-2362 for an exact estimate on your setup.
We keep the most common PGT rollers, hinges, and cartridges on the truck, including the 5000- and 6000-series rollers that fail most often in San Jose. Less common parts are ordered same week from regional suppliers. We also stock materials from KraftMaid, Cambria, and Silestone for the broader remodel scope.
