Plant Prefab Fence Installation: The San Jose Owner’s Guide
Plant Prefab fence panel installation in San Jose typically runs $4,130 – $10,620 fully installed, depending on linear footage, post condition, and whether we’re matching existing panels or replacing full runs. We stock Plant Prefab-compatible fence hardware and panels on our trucks, so most San Jose jobs finish same-day once we’re on site. Most owners discover they need us the morning after a windstorm, when a panel has pulled loose from its brackets, or when a property-line survey reveals the old fence was set three inches over the line.
If you’ve got a leaning panel, a popped post, or a gate that drags against the concrete, you’re in the right place. We’ll walk you through what a proper Plant Prefab fence installation looks like in San Jose’s soil and weather, what it costs, and when calling a pro beats fighting the hardware yourself.
Which Plant Prefab Models This Applies To

Plant Prefab’s fence systems share a common post-and-panel hardware spec across their current residential lines, but there’s one compatibility gotcha we run into constantly in San Jose: the 2021-and-newer panel brackets use a ⅜-inch carriage bolt pattern, while the pre-2021 runs used a 5/16-inch bolt. If you order aftermarket brackets for an older panel without checking the hole diameter, nothing lines up. We keep both bolt sizes on the truck.
The same applies to post sleeves. Plant Prefab’s standard posts are 4×4 powder-coated steel, but several Willow Glen and Rose Garden installations from 2018 – 2020 used a 3½-inch aluminum sleeve that aftermarket suppliers no longer carry. When we can’t get exact OEM, we use machined steel adapters rather than shimming, because a shimmed post in San Jose’s clay soil is a post that shifts in the first wet winter. Penhallow Remodeling San Jose is an independent service provider, not affiliated with Plant Prefab, but we’ve been matching and installing their fence hardware long enough to know which substitutions hold up and which ones don’t.

Signs Your Plant Prefab Fence Installation Is Failing
- Panel lifting at the corners. This is almost always a bracket that’s lost tension or corroded at the fastener. In San Jose’s dry summers, the powder coat can micro-crack at the bend points, letting moisture into the steel underneath.
- Post lean, especially on the afternoon-sun side. Clay soil expands and contracts with the seasons here. A post set in concrete without a gravel base will heave by an inch or more within two years. The lean usually shows up first along south-facing runs where the soil dries out fastest.
- Gate drags or scrapes. Plant Prefab gate hinges have a nylon bushing that wears flat after about five to seven years of daily use. Once the bushing is gone, the hinge pin chews the bracket and the gate drops a quarter inch, then a half.
- Rattling in the wind. Loose panel clips or missing vibration pads. The panels themselves are fine; the connection points are telling you they’re tired.
- White oxidation streaks below any fastener. Galvanic corrosion between dissimilar metals, especially where steel brackets meet aluminum panels. It’s cosmetic at first, structural if ignored for two or three more wet seasons.

AfterReplacement Cost & What’s Included

In San Jose, full Plant Prefab fence installation runs $4,130 – $10,620. The spread comes down to three things: linear footage (most residential runs here are 40 – 90 feet), whether the existing posts are salvageable or need to be re-set, and whether you’re matching an existing panel style or switching to a different Plant Prefab series. A 50-foot run with reusable posts and new brackets typically lands around $4,700. A 90-foot run with post re-setting, gate hardware replacement, and panel matching runs toward the top of the range.
Every estimate from Penhallow includes the written price before any work starts, the parts and labor separated line by line, and our 365-Day Done Right Promise: if something fails inside a year, we come back and fix it at no charge. No re-inspection fee, no service call charge.
DIY or Call Us?
Here’s the honest split. You can absolutely check your own post bases and bracket bolts. If you see cracked concrete at the post base or a bracket that’s pulled an eighth inch off the panel, you’ve found the problem. Tightening a loose bolt on Plant Prefab hardware is fine; re-setting a steel post in clay soil is not a weekend job. The post has to come out clean, the hole re-dug and graveled, and the panel re-tensioned in line with the rest of the run. Get the string line wrong and every panel after it fights you.
Gates are where DIY goes south fastest. If your Plant Prefab gate has dropped or the hinges are clicking, call us at (669) 274-2362 before the hinge tears out of the post. We’ll give you the real number before we leave the driveway.
FAQs

Panels themselves typically last 20 – 25 years in San Jose’s climate; the hardware (brackets, fasteners, gate hinges) is the weak point and usually needs replacement at the 7 – 10 year mark. If you’re seeing rust at the connections but the panels are straight, you’re in a cheap fix, not a full replacement. Call (669) 274-2362 for an exact quote, estimates are free.
Yes, in most cases. Damaged brackets, worn gate hinges, and heaving posts can all be repaired without replacing panels. We’ll tell you directly if repair makes sense or if you’re throwing money at panels that are already compromised. Call (669) 274-2362 for a free estimate.
A standard post re-set plus bracket replacement on a 50 – 70 foot run is one day on site. Full runs with new post holes and gate hardware can run two days. We’ll give you the arrival window in writing before work starts, and a live person answers the phone 24/7 if you need to reach us.
We keep the common bracket sizes, post adapters, gate hinge rebuild kits, and fasteners on board for Plant Prefab-compatible systems, including the pre-2021 5/16-inch bolt patterns that catch people off guard. If we need a specialty panel, we source it from our San Jose suppliers same week. Call (669) 274-2362 and we’ll confirm what we have before we head out.
