Unilock Fence Installation: The San Jose Owner’s Guide

Unilock fence installation in San Jose typically runs $4,130 to $10,620 installed, depending on fence length, post depth, gate hardware, and whether we’re working with new Unilock panels or matching an existing run. Most San Jose homeowners call us when a fence section starts leaning after winter rains or a gate post wobbles loose in softened clay soil. The issue usually isn’t the Unilock panel itself; it’s what’s under it.

We’re an independent San Jose contractor, not affiliated with Unilock, but we work with their fence systems regularly and keep compatible Unilock post kits, caps, and mounting hardware on our trucks. If your fence is sagging, shifting, or pulling away at the seams, here’s exactly what you’re dealing with and what it costs to fix it right.

Which Unilock Models This Applies To

Unilock’s fence lineup in the San Jose market runs through a few distinct series: the Estate Wall, Brussels Dimensional, and Pisa II lines, each with different post dimensions and panel widths. The compatibility gotcha we see most often is this: Unilock fence posts are manufactured with a specific internal channel width, and the mounting bracket has to match it exactly. A post from the Brussels Dimensional series won’t accept the same bracket as a Pisa II post, even though both look similar from six feet away.

If you’re unsure what you have, look for the series name molded into the base of a post or on the underside of a cap. Unilock stamps most of their structural pieces, and the stamp is usually legible even after years outdoors. For older Unilock fences installed before 2015, we sometimes can’t source the original bracket style, so we use a machined aftermarket bracket that’s spec-matched to the post channel width. It fits cleanly and holds up the same way, but it’s worth knowing before we quote the job.

Signs Your Unilock Fence Installation Is Failing

  • Leaning posts after rain. San Jose’s clay-heavy soil expands when wet and contracts when dry. Over three or four seasons, that movement works posts loose at the base, and a fence that stood straight in July starts listing by February. The fix is a deeper concrete footing, usually 24 to 30 inches, with gravel drainage at the bottom.
  • Gaps opening between fence sections. Unilock panels are engineered for tight seams, so a visible gap usually means the post below has shifted. The panel rarely fails; the foundation did.
  • Gate dragging or not latching. A gate post that’s tilted just a few degrees throws off the latch alignment entirely. You’ll see scrape marks on the ground or hear the latch click without catching.
  • Cracked or chipped post caps. Caps take the brunt of San Jose sun exposure. UV damage weakens the concrete over time, and hairline cracks let water in. Once water gets into the post channel, freeze-thaw cycles (even mild San Jose ones) accelerate the cracking.
  • Loose or corroded mounting brackets. Older Unilock installs sometimes used galvanized steel brackets that eventually rust where sprinkler overspray hits them. The bracket fails long before the panel does.

Replacement Cost & What’s Included

A home office with a built-in desk and shelves

Most Unilock fence installation and repair jobs in San Jose fall between $4,130 and $10,620. A short fence section with two or three posts reset runs toward the lower end; a full fence run with a new gate, post caps, and fresh footings for every post lands at the top.

What drives the number: linear fencing footage, how many posts need new concrete footings, gate hardware if we’re rebuilding a gate, and whether your existing Unilock panels can be reused or need matching replacements. You get a written price before any work starts, with parts and labor separated, so you can see exactly what you’re paying for. The work carries our 365-Day Done Right Promise: if something shifts, cracks, or fails inside a year, we come back and fix it at no charge.

DIY or Call Us?

Unilock fence work isn’t typically dangerous the way a garage door spring is, but it’s unforgiving. You can safely check your post bases for visible gaps in the concrete and look for stamped series markings on the posts themselves. What you shouldn’t do is try to reset a leaning post by shimming it straight. That works for about two months, then the post shifts again and now the concrete has a void behind it.

The expensive part of DIY fence repair isn’t the material; it’s the digging and the concrete. San Jose clay is dense, and a post hole that needs to be 30 inches deep through hard-packed soil takes a real auger and a fair amount of time. If you want to know what we’d charge for your specific fence, call (669) 274-2362 and we’ll talk it through. As Trevor Nash puts it on walk-throughs: give me the real problem and I’ll give you the real number.
