ViewLux Bathroom Remodeling: The San Jose Owner’s Guide
If your ViewLux bathroom remodel is showing its age, we can match the right replacement parts and handle the installation. A full ViewLux bathroom remodel in San Jose typically runs $10,620 – $33,040, and a smaller refresh like a shower swap or vanity install usually lands between $945 and $14,160. You’ll know it’s time when the shower valve sticks, the vanity drawers sag, or the surface around the tub starts pulling away from the wall.
We see it most often when a homeowner tries to live with a failing shower valve or a vanity that’s delaminating, then the surrounding tile and drywall go bad behind it. By the time we’re called, the fix usually involves more than the one part that failed first. That’s why we write the scope to cover what’s actually failing, not just what got noticed.
Which ViewLux Models This Applies To

ViewLux bathroom products aren’t branded the way KraftMaid or Cambria are, so identifying your exact part takes a minute. Most ViewLux bathroom fixtures and components we encounter in San Jose fall into three groups: shower systems, vanity tops and bases, and tub-to-shower surrounds. The replacement approach changes depending on which one you have.
Here’s the compatibility gotcha we run into all the time: ViewLux shower valves use either a 1/2-inch cartridge or a pressure-balanced cartridge, and the two are not interchangeable. If you order the wrong one, you’ll get a valve that fits the trim but delivers no temperature control. Check the tag on the valve body behind the trim plate; if it’s illegible, we can identify it by pulling the cartridge and measuring the bore. Aftermarket cartridges from Delta and Moen fit some ViewLux valve bodies, but only if the original was built to that standard. We stock both OEM where available and the quality aftermarket equivalents we trust. When we install, we also stock KraftMaid, Cambria, and Silestone for the surrounding surface work, so the whole bathroom gets addressed in one scope, not three trips.

Signs Your ViewLux Bathroom Remodeling Is Failing
- Shower temperature swings when a toilet flushes. This is almost always a worn pressure-balancing cartridge, common on ViewLux valves that are 8 to 12 years old. It’ll only get worse, and it’s a scald risk for kids and older adults.
- Vanity drawers stick or the finish is bubbling along the bottom edge. Moisture has gotten into the MDF core. In San Jose’s dry climate, the outside looks fine until the drawer box swells and locks up. You’re usually looking at a full vanity replacement once the core is wet.
- Caulk lines around the tub or shower keep cracking or peeling back. The surround has shifted, or water is getting behind it and breaking down the adhesive. Silicon caulk alone won’t fix it; the substrate (the moisture-resistant layer behind your tile or surround) needs to be checked.
- Grout in the shower floor stays dark after it dries. Water is trapped behind the tile, which means the waterproofing layer has failed. In San Jose, hard water accelerates this; mineral deposits clog the grout’s ability to shed moisture.
- A slow drip from the shower head that won’t stop. It’s not the shower head. It’s a failing valve seat or cartridge. The drip is costing you water and quietly staining the shower floor.

AfterReplacement Cost & What’s Included

Here’s what installed work actually costs in San Jose, and what drives the number.
A complete ViewLux bathroom remodel runs $10,620 – $33,040. The range comes down to size, whether you’re moving plumbing, and what materials you pick. A small bathroom remodel with a new tub, surround, vanity, and toilet lands between $5,900 and $14,160. A tub-to-shower conversion is $4,130 – $11,800. A new vanity installed runs $945 – $3,540, and a walk-in shower runs $5,310 – $14,160.
Every Penhallow job comes with a written price before any work starts. That price is the price on the invoice. Labor and parts are broken out line by line so you can see exactly what the valve costs, what the surround costs, and what the install labor runs. If the repair fails inside the 365-Day Done Right Promise, we come back and fix it at no charge. That promise is written into the scope, not implied.
DIY or Call Us?
Some things you can safely handle yourself. Tightening a loose shower head, replacing a worn rubber washer in a faucet, or re-caulking a small section of trim is fine. But if the problem is a stuck cartridge, a leaking valve body, or signs of water getting behind the surround, stop. A stuck cartridge under pressure can send the valve stem through the trim plate, and yanking on it only makes the replacement harder. Water behind tile means rot and mold behind the wall. That’s our job, not a weekend project.
If you’ve already opened the wall and found surprises, call us. Give me the real problem and I’ll give you the real number. We’ll come out, look at exactly what’s failing, and put a written scope in your hand before we touch a tool. Call (669) 274-2362.
FAQs

A properly installed ViewLux bathroom with a quality shower valve and waterproofed surround lasts 15 to 20 years in most San Jose homes. The weak points are cartridges and caulk lines, which typically need attention every 5 to 8 years depending on water hardness.
Usually yes. If it’s a shower valve, vanity, or tub surround that failed, we can replace that component and leave the rest of the bathroom alone. The exception is when water has damaged the framing or drywall behind it, at which point the repair has to include that substrate work. Call (669) 274-2362 and we’ll tell you which path applies to your bathroom.
A straightforward cartridge replacement takes about an hour. A full valve replacement inside the wall takes half a day, including shutting off water, cutting an access panel, and pressure-testing the new valve. We’ll give you a written arrival window and a written price before the work starts.
We carry the most common ViewLux-compatible cartridges, valve rebuild kits, and surround trim pieces on our trucks. If your model needs an order-in part, we’ll tell you that up front and include the lead time in your written scope. We won’t start a job and discover mid-way that we can’t finish it.
