Wellborn Bathroom Remodeling: The San Jose Owner’s Guide

If you have a Wellborn vanity, cabinet, or bath storage piece that’s failing in your San Jose home, we stock and install Wellborn-compatible bathroom remodeling components, with full bathroom remodels typically running $10,620 – $33,040 depending on scope, cabinet line, and finish work. Most San Jose homeowners discover the problem the same way: a drawer front that’s come loose at the join, a door that won’t hang square anymore, or veneer that’s started to lift near the shower’s humidity line. The fix usually comes down to whether the cabinet box itself is sound or whether moisture has worked its way into the substrate (the structural board beneath the finish), and that determination drives the price more than anything else.

Penhallow Remodeling San Jose is an independent service provider and not affiliated with Wellborn. That said, we’ve installed and repaired enough Wellborn cabinetry across the South Bay to know which parts hold up, which ones fail first, and what actually works as a long-term fix in our local climate.

Which Wellborn Models This Applies To

A walk-in pantry with wood shelving

Wellborn has run several cabinet lines over the years, and the compatibility question matters more than most people expect. The Estate, Premier, and Wellborn Cabinet Essentials lines each used slightly different hinge boring patterns and drawer slide mounts. If your Wellborn piece was installed before roughly 2012, you’re likely dealing with a side-mount drawer slide system; newer Wellborn cabinetry commonly uses undermount soft-close slides. You can’t swap one for the other without modifying the drawer box, and that’s the kind of detail that turns a $50 part swap into a $400 cabinet rebuild if you get it wrong.

To identify your model, look inside the cabinet door or on the bottom of a drawer for a stamp or label: Wellborn typically marked the line name and manufacture date on a sticker inside the sink base or the top drawer face. If the sticker’s gone, measure the door overlay (the amount the door overlaps the cabinet face). Older Wellborn faces run a tight 3/8-inch overlay; newer lines run 1/2-inch to full overlay. That measurement tells us what hinge cup depth and arm we need before we even order a part.

Signs Your Wellborn Bathroom Remodeling Is Failing

  • Drawer faces that have separated at the bottom joint. Bathroom humidity cycles in San Jose – especially in older Willow Glen and Rose Garden homes without bath exhaust fans – swell and contract the wood repeatedly. The glue line at the bottom of a drawer face is usually the first thing to let go.
  • Doors that sag or won’t close square. Euro-style cup hinges carry the door’s full weight. Once the hinge arm bends or the cup loosens inside the door bore, shimming the strike plate won’t fix it. You need a new hinge, and if the bore is wallowed out, the door itself needs repair.
  • Soft-close mechanisms that no longer catch. The damper piston inside the slide wears out. On Wellborn undermount slides, the catch is integrated into the slide body. On older side-mount hardware, it’s a separate clip that loses tension and gets brittle.
  • Veneer lifting or bubbling near the shower or tub. This is moisture penetration, not a surface defect. The fix isn’t glue and a clamp – it’s locating the source of the humidity, replacing the damaged panels, and often rebuilding the cabinet end panel.
  • Adjustable shelf pins that keep falling through. If the shelf pin holes in the cabinet sides have stripped or worn oval, the shelf will never sit level again. We drill and sleeve the holes or replace the cabinet side panels on higher-wear pieces.

Replacement Cost & What’s Included

A small remodeled galley kitchen with cabinets to the ceiling

For a Wellborn bathroom vanity repair or component replacement in San Jose, installation usually lands between $945 and $3,540, depending on whether we’re swapping hardware, rebuilding a drawer box, or replacing the entire vanity. A full bathroom remodel with Wellborn cabinetry runs $10,620 – $33,040 here, and the cabinet line, countertop material, and whether we’re moving plumbing or staying in place all drive that number up or down.

Every quote is a written number before any work starts. No verbal ballpark, no range that changes at the door. The price covers the parts, labor, haul-away of the old components, and a written 365-Day Done Right Promise: if the repair fails inside a year, we come back and fix it at no charge. That’s the number on day one and that’s the number on the invoice.

DIY or Call Us?

You can safely check a few things yourself: whether drawer slides are visibly bent, whether hinge screws are tight, and whether the cabinet box itself is still solid or if the side panels have swelled at the bottom. Those observations help us give you a more accurate range over the phone. What we’d warn against is trying to rebuild a drawer face or replace undermount slides without the right jigs – the tolerance on soft-close slides is tight, and a drawer that’s off by 1/16 of an inch will bind every time you open it.

And if the damage is from moisture, you’re not fixing just the cabinet. You’re fixing airflow. That’s a bathroom remodel conversation, not a parts conversation. Give me the real problem and I’ll give you the real number. Call (669) 274-2362 and we’ll walk through what you’re seeing.
